WB. Here is an image of an official photo that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 July 1942. Shown here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's newly-constructed Coaling Tipple, located midway between the 4th and 7th Street Bridges. It was built here to save time and congestion: returning helper engines could refuel here, rather than running down and back to East Altoona for more coal. Partially visible across the tracks are some of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. William E. Burket Collection. |
