NS 8000
It had been quite a while since my friend TJ and I had been able to find a day where we were both able to watch trains together. But, all that waiting finally came to an end on the final Friday of May. I hadnt done a full day of trains in Muncie yet this year, so I decided with TJ finally being home and available, I would pay him a visit and wed spend the day around town watching trains. Of course, things began to rapidly change once we met up (as our trips usually do). The rebranded Connersville and Northern Railroad (former Big Four Terminal, Former Connersville and New Castle), had recently been taking in several IBCX motors to be fixed at their shops on the north side of Connersville. The last few sets of these engines had been CN painted GP9RMs from the Camp Chase Railroad in Columbus, OH, and SD40-2s from the Indiana and Ohio. The final three SD40-2s from the IORY were brought in on CSX local L425 the evening before, which included IORY 3488, still in BN green, and OHCR 4030, still in corporate maroon. I had been planning on capturing this move since I had found out that it would potentially be happening a few weeks prior to this trip, and with it falling on a day off from work, there was no way I could miss it. TJ isnt too big into the short line realm of railfanning, but thankfully, I was able to convince him to let us change our day up a bit. With the CVNR crew not coming on duty until 0900 that morning, we still had some time to shoot some action around Muncie, which that morning, was very light. But, NS had a few southbound moves to make once I picked up TJ. The first of those trains was NS 143 crossing Walnut Street, which had the class unit ES44AC on the front.
