Description:
This Baldwin built 2-8-2 locomotive was a class Q-3 and originally carried the number 4531 but in 1957, it was renumbered BO 330. Sadly the loco was retired and scrapped a year later in August of 1958 at Newark, NJ. Specs - serial #49467, class Q-3, 64" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 292,000 lb, tractive effrort of 53,800 lb. Bob Rathke was the original photographer and this print appears in several webpages.

Long before a GP40 wore the number 4209, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Built in September of 1912 (serial #38414) filled in freight and passenger service during its career. It was rebuilt to the Q-1ba class in 1931. After nearly 39 years of service, the loco was retired and scrapped in the month of March, 1951, at the Mt Clare, MD yard. . This is an example of a little later Baldwin built Mikado. Constructed in 1913, it had slight differences with its earlier sister. It had 64" drivers, developed slightly less boiler pressure (190 psi) for the 26"x32" cylinders. The engine weight was slightly heavier at 284,500 lb and produced a slightly larger tractive effort of 54,587 lb. The class was retired and scrapped by 1941. The date and location are approximations. With a trail of smoke heading skyward, this Baldwin Pacific built between 1920-22 moves through the B&O yard at Garrett, Indiana on this day in 1955. Description:
Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1922, it was their class Q-4b with 64" drivers, developed 220 psi boiler pressure for its 26"x32" cylinders, had an engine weight of 327,400 lb and it could produce a significant tractive effort of 63,200 lb. The class was retired and scrapped by 1959. Date and location are approximations. No photographer was identified.
