Both are E44 (C-C) electrics built by General Electric and rated at 4,400 horsepower each. #4446 was constructed for the Pennsylvania Railroad in October of 1962 and rebuilt as an E44A in October of 1967. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at Safe Harbor, Pennsylvania, on 29 October 1978. Prominent here is AMTK engine #4935, a GG1 (2-C-C-2) electric built in Juniata by the Pennsylvania Railroad during March of 1943, rated at 4,620 horsepower, later owned by Penn Central and Amtrak, and presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. It's powering an NRHS excursion from Washington to Strasburg and back. |
