LRC Prototype - UPI Press Release |
Description: |
This is a fascinating look at the development of high-speed passenger train history. This is the original UPI press photo and releaser used in newspapers about the Canadian prototype high-speed train, "LRC". The press release states "1-/2/1974-Chicago: A prototype Canadaina Passenger train, built to compete with the French Turbotrain in the high-speed rail passenger market passed throough Chicago 10/1 on its way to the Pueblo, Colo. testing area. The main feature of the LRC - "light=weight, rapid, comfortable" - is is suspension system which allows it to round curves 35-40% faster than conventional trains. The LRC coach is of aluminum and is 50,000 pounds lighter than a standard 85-foot coach. The train is the product of a consotium of Alcan Canada Products, Dominion Foundries and Stee, and MLW industries. (UPI) js/hdo." Interesting side note - Bombadier purchased MLW in 1975 to get control of this model. |
