Title:
PRR 4266, I-1SA, c. 1953
Description:
Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Moving away from the southwestern face of the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Roundhouse and about to pass under the Bridge is engine #4266, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during July of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in April of 1949, and retired in March of 1953 after 30 years of faithful service. Visible at the left is the access ramp connecting the Bridge with the Roundhouse; beyond it is another "Decapod," scurrying about.
