Here is a photo by T. Martin Flattley, Jr., that was taken at the 59th Street Yard in Chicago, Illinois, on 6 August 1939. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6924, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1926 and retired in May of 1957. Partially visible at the right is PRR engine #5357, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in March of 1924 and retired in February of 1949. Gary Mittner Collection. |
