East Altoona. Here is an image of a photo by Mike Zollitsch that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in June of 1964. At the right is the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Roundhouse. This structure was completed in 1903 and was billed as "The World's Largest Roundhouse." To the left of it are the former Westbound Locomotive Ready Tracks, now inhabited by numerous deadlined diesels. In the distance is the East Altoona Coaling Tipple. At the left are the east and west through freight tracks. Photo taken from Juniata's 17th Street Bridge. William E. Burket Collection. |
