At this point I was running extremely late so I made a mad dash for Connersville. When I arrived the Metamora Train had already left the station and the Polar Express was getting ready to load up for its next trip. With that being said I began to race south on State Road 121 to find the Metamora Train. As I passed the WWVR Yard I noticed that the Lima Diesel was up and running. I have been told that they utilize a chase engine for the Polar Express. When the train takes off, another engine will follow about 1-2 miles behind it. When it catches up with the main train they will take the train back as far as the yard before decoupling and pushing the train the rest of the way to the depot. I m not sure they they dont run the train as a push/pull operation, Maybe just more fun for the volunteers! |
