This is the NS Newburgh Spur. The spur stems from an industrial line between Newburgh and Boonville to serve Peabody Coal and Alcoa (now Kaiser Aluminum.) This particular spur served another, closer coal mine that has since been long closed. Mining began in 1952 and this ex-SOU spur was made to serve it. The line seems to be abandoned around 1984 and has fell into disrepair since. A lot of the tracks are still intact, albeit overgrown with one portion washed out. |
