Here is the fourth of four original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken from the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4250, #3667, and an unidentified "B" Class (0-6-0) switcher. #4250 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during June of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in September of 1943, and retired in December of 1953. Engine #3667 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1918 and retired in August of 1953. In this context, the "Decapod" and the switcher are moving the inert "Pacific" into the Roundhouse. Of the three locomotives partially visible in the foreground, the first two are PRR engines #6803 and #6821; both are Class M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountains" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. |
