L&N Train No. 10
Louisville & Nashville K-5 class Pacific 273 was accelerating northbound train No. 10 out of the railroad's Canal Street Station in New Orleans. The train consisted of two mail-and-express cars, a railway post office car, two more mail-and-express cars, and three coaches. No. 10 left New Orleans daily – except Saturday and Sunday – at 3:30 PM and arrived in Mobile at 8:20 PM. On Sunday it left at 5:15 PM, and on Saturday it ran as No. 14 and left at 2:00 PM. The 273 was built by Brooks in 1924, and was retired on 24 May 1951, shortly after this photo was taken. The three tracks in the foreground belonged to the New Orleans Public Belt, and an NOPB Baldwin diesel can be seen down near the L&N train shed. (approximate day of photo)
