PRR 9771, EF-15A, 1963 Editors Pick!
24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #9771, #9687, and #7262. All were built by EMD. #9771 is an EF-15A built in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #9687 is an EH-15 built in 1949 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #7262 is an EFS-17M built in 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with a 103-car mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Partially visible on the left is SLOPE Tower.
