PRR 2402, AF-24, 1965
Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2402, #2513, and #2520. #2402 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in September of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #2513 and #2520 are GF-25's built by General Electric in October of 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They're pulling a 26-car iron-ore train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and the steel mills of Western Pennsylvania. Visible in the near distance is position-light signal #2360. Photo taken just East of the Altoona Passenger Station.
