| Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E8 9970 eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on June 14, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. I marked the slide mount as Train Number 30, the Ak-Sar-Ben (Nebraska spelled backwards) Zephyr, a daily train departing Lincoln at 9:00 PM and arriving in Chicago at 7:50 AM. On this photo date, the train includes a couple of new Budd gallery coaches in the consist at the head end. The cars were delivered to the CB&Q at Lincoln to avoid Illinois sales tax, and returned to Chicago for revenue service in this manner. |
