Molten steel trains heading to Gary commonly have spacer cars, which are used to spread the extreme weights of the molton steel cars. This allows the weight to be spread on the lines bridges.

Gary L General Actually the idlers are there to provide brakes. The bottle cars do not have air brakes since the extreme heat would destroy the seals required to function. 9/24/2013 2:49:51 AM
