Mar 11, 2006 - NS 9020 pops out of into daylight
NS 9020 leads a loaded coal train out of Natural Tunnel as patrons and engineer wave to each other on a very nice 78 degree March day in SW Virginia. Natural Tunnel was formed by a river that flows through the tunnel and created a optimal route for the South Atlantic and Ohio railroad during its construction. The SA&O would later become part of the Southern and later Norfolk Southern and is now an important route for moving coal from the mines of SW Virginia to utilities in the southeast.
