Joe Marascalco General Unfortunately not, This job went to work at Grenada and went to the Nissan Yard a few miles south of this picture where it set these cars out for the Jackson/Canton Local and picked up their cars and headed back to Grenada. When this picture was taken, they made 3 trips to Canton a week and stayed around Grenada their other 3 days. When CN sold this line, they were making 2 trips to Canton per week. When the Grenada Railway took over, they made 1 trip to Canton per week until they stopped operating the south end of the railroad in July of this year. 12/30/2011 1:05:32 AM
Zac Blanton General That's what i thought, that makes sense considering how rusted the rails are in Canton. Yeah i live in Ridgeland which is on the Grenada Sub and we get one train a day really which is the Canton Local filled up with autoracks. But from time to time we do get local traffic, but the Canton Local is the hottest train on the line. 12/30/2011 8:12:59 PM
Joe Marascalco General I got to work that Jackson-Canton Local for two nights in a row last summer. They sent me down there while in engineer training to get qualified on the Canton District. It just so happened that one of the nights I was there was the very last time that the Grenada Railway delivered cars to Canton. We picked them up and took them into Jackson with the rest of our slop. 12/30/2011 11:04:06 PM
Zac Blanton General So i guess they stopped this past summer, and i think now Grenada Railway just stores cars on the line. 12/31/2011 12:44:06 AM
Zac Blanton General From Canton up to Southaven 12/31/2011 12:44:39 AM
Joe Marascalco General They still operate from Southaven to Elliott. There is nothing between Elliott and Canton as they made an unsuccessful attempt to abandon the track between Grenada and Canton. Do a google search on Grenada Railway or go to the STB website and search under Grenada Railway in the filings. 12/31/2011 1:01:29 AM
Zac Blanton General Yeah i know about the abandonment attempt, i was keeping tabs on that because i couldn't believe they were actually trying to do it. 12/31/2011 12:27:30 PM
Zac Blanton General Say, do you remember the 2 days that CN ran down to Canton before they sold the line? 2/15/2013 7:35:06 AM
