Amtrak E8 444 at about 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 444 was built as ACL E7 532 (c/n 3408) on EMD Order E635. At some point it was wrecked and returned to EMD, rebuilt into an E8 during 1953 on EMD Order 8027, with the ACL road number reused (532). It became SCL 575, was conveyed to Amtrak, becoming AMTK 233, and when the F40PH's began arriving, it was renumbered to 444. |
