Old trestle
Here is a pic of the old Central of Georgia Railroad trestle over the Chattahoochee River near Columbia AL. The center span of this trestle would turn to allow river boat traffic to pass. Trains operating over this trestle were weight restricted and locomotives had to have spacer cars as the weight of locomotives coupled together was deemed as more than the bridge could stand. Here are a couple of pics of trains that operated over this trestle using spacer cars: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1999782 and http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1010597 This trestle was replaced in the early 1970's due to the coming of the nuclear plant near Columbia and the extremely heavy loads that would need to be moved to it.
