CRIP 4-8-4 #5044 - Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific         
This powerful and versatile 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotive was built by Alco-Schenectady in April of 1930 as CRIP # 5044. With upgraded 74" drivers in the late 1930's rebuild, this loco could serve both freight and high speed passenger service. It lasted for nearly 22 years before being retired and sold for scrap in July of 1952. Original specs - 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 434,000 lb and tractive effort of 66,620 lb. This is a Wesley Krambeck photo
