Rick Hoar General Nice shot. Lots of old memories of this train. My brother used to work for them and we rode space available about once a month to Florida. Many nights I fell asleep listening to the chug. 9/7/2005 4:57:31 PM
Zach Pumphery General Amtrak is finally scrapping those old ex-CN Autoracks. 10/6/2005 1:28:43 PM
steven langsford General AWSOME SHOT!!! 12/5/2005 10:14:57 PM
David Harding General This company showed alot of promise was hit by several terrible wrecks and expansion of service from louisville to Florida just didn't work. But from this shot you can't see the trouble that is lurking in the company's future.Great idea then and now and a beautifil train no the less. 5/25/2006 9:08:35 PM
Bryan Smith General A great concept. The old ACL actually looked into an Auto-Train type service many years before it became reality as we see here. Are their other Amtrak routes where this type service could work (My picks: LA to Seattle or Chicago to LA) and if so, why doesn't Amtrak pursue it given the success of the present day Auto Train?? 12/31/2006 8:03:56 AM
Brent Jackson General Auto-Train was a unique concept, and it worked well for its owners until several accidents and a bad exansion kicked it down. If I could get the startup cash, I would get myself some new autoracks, passenger cars, a handful of six-axle diesels (probably SD90MACs) and run a service like this myself. There are lots of routes where this sorta system would make perfect sense. Amtrak makes huge money off of their auto train, but since the current administration won't give them one red dime to help them with infrastructure and new routes, I don't bet on this system ever being common again. A shame really, because having used Amtrak's service once it was a good idea. 3/26/2007 7:23:31 PM
