Rebar
Once the first course of stones is removed on the abutment and the backwall is demolished, galvanized reinforcing studs are drilled and grouted 12 inches into the remaining walls. These steel rods will be the anchors for the reinforcing bar cage that will eventually be in the new concrete abutment top. The florescent caps are to prevent people from injuring themselves if they were to slip and fall on the exposed rebar ends.
