GCRY 801 |
| Description: |
Grand Canyon Railway 801 rolls south on the southbound Williams Flyer as it enters the station at Williams. 801 was originally a Boston & Maine RDC (Rail Diesel Car). In the mid 1970s, the RDC and several of its cousins were sold to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. The MBTA used their RDCs in their stock form for a few years, eventually sending them to Morrison-Knudsen to be rebuilt as unpowered coaches and cab-cars. The rebuilt cars were dubbed "Boise Budds" after the M-K plant in Boise, Idaho. The cars then served for Virgina Railway Express and Caltrain, before the latter sold the cars to Grand Canyon in 2005. |
