Title:  PRR 9684, Odd F, c. 1946
Description:  Here is a steam locomotive portrait via F.R. Kern that was taken at the Locomotive Shops in Canton, Ohio, c. 1946. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9684. a narrow-gauge 2-6-0 "Mogul." This locomotive was built by the American Locomotive Company as number "4" for the Waynesburg & Washington Railroad during May of 1916. When the PRR acquired the three-foot gauge WWRR in 1920, it was renumbered "9684." After being stored in the Northumberland Roundhouse for many years, it was put on permanent display at the Green County Fairgrounds near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Note the transfer table pit in the foreground. (#18 of 33)

PRR 2-6-0 Narrow Gage Locomotive prepped for return to Waynesburg, PA
Title:  PRR 2-6-0 Narrow Gage Locomotive prepped for return to Waynesburg, PA
Description:  2-6-0 Narrow Gage locomotive numbered PRR #9684 is sitting on a flat car prepped for shipment back to its former home - Waynesburg, PA. It originally worked as W&W#4 for the Washington & Waynesburg Railroad, a 36-mile narrow gage railroad operating in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. The W&W was acquired by the PRR, which renumbered W&W#4 to PRR 9684. (In PRR nomenclature, #968X indicated "narrow gage".) The locomotive was transported to Northumberland, PA for storage in 1934, but was returned to the Waynesburg Historical Society for display in February, 1953. The locomotive is currently preserved at the Waynesburg / Green County Historical museum. I don't find any other photos of it here in RRPictureArchives, which is a bit surprising to me because there are plenty of photos here of preserved steam locomotives on display. The funny appliance on the roof of the cab is a Vacuum Brake muffler, which is how rolling stock was braked on the W&W. Locomotive was built by Alco Brooks in 1916. Sorry the photo is so dark, but there's an interesting story behind it, and I was pleased to see that the locomotive was preserved.
