After we saw the light power move, we came out to take a ride in the sun, stopping at nearby Crystal Lake to do some bird watching and enjoy the 60 degree day. As we were heading back to Ark 59, we saw a southbound rolling past. A quick dash into Decatur got me ahead of the train, but just enough to jump and get a grab shot. I had gone out to see the CPKC Holiday Train, the original plan was to pick it up at Noel, then follow it south til the light went. I got distracted along the way, first by a southbound grain move almost as soon as I left the house, then when I got to Decatur and the southbound signal was green at Roller Av. I decided to wait there, instead of working against the train, rather than risk missing it. Turned out the signal was for a southbound grain move that was working Georges Farms just to the north, and the Holiday Train was delayed at McElhany due to an incident requiring police involvement, and would be released around 1630. At 1715, it finally showed here, passing the stuffed and mounted F 7 here, also adorned with lights. |

We went back to Noel, thinking wed get one more shot of the northbound, but he was playing with the power, and swe didnt stay, since it was now getting toward 1800, and dinner was calling. When we got down to Gravette, we came up beside this southbound grain move. He had not talked to the 4701 north when we were at Noel, and we werent able to see it through the trees, so we had no idea of its existence. We caught up at Decatur, here rolling past the stuffed and mounted F 7, a single unit leading 100 cars. There are DPUs, as well see shortly. |

Wed just come back from Wal Mart, and in the process of unloading the weeks goodies, I heard a horn. I quickly got the stuff in the house and took off. Turned out what I thought was a northbound wasnt, but I sometimes dont catch up to them right away, since the northbounds are usually lighter trains, and can get a good roll on. So, I went to Decatur, hoping that was the case, and Id catch it. When I got to Decatur, the signal was lit green for a southbound. Ill take it. At least I didnt waste the trip. A KCS Belle leads 125 cars of grain south. |
