Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8661, #8657, #8667, #9690, and #9776. #8661, #8657, and # 8667 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8661 and #8667 were built in 1958, but # 8657 was built in 1957. #9690 is an EH-15 built by EMD in 1949 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #9776 is an EF-15A built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. They are pulling a 59-car westbound freight train with caboose #477806. They have just passed under the 12th Street Bridge and are right in front of the Altoona Passenger Station.

Description:  Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here on the right (L to R) are PRR engines #9691 and #7206. Both were built by EMD. #9691 is an EH-15 built in 1949 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #7206 is an EFS-17M built in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They have just come down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve with a 60-car mixed-cargo freight train and are passing the derailment site with caution. The caboose is #477382. Visible in the center is PRR steam-powered crane #490965. Visible on the left is one of the two derailed locomotives, PRR engine #8890 ~ an AS-10 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Visible in the distance (L to R) are the PRR Test Plant Building and the 17th Street Bridge.

MILW 95C was new to MILW, remaining with that road until retirement.

Description:  Heading through the famed Horseshoe Curve is this 1951 EMD F7A unit, #9764. The unknown photographer states on the back, "3 unit EMD headed by #9764 crawls up Horseshoe Curve. The train consisted of about 95 loads, with 2 unit Baldwin "Thousand Legger" "Snapper" on rear. Can anyone expain the pusher units used? Note the open door "air conditioning" on this lead unit.
