Description:
Sitting in the Proviso yard scrap line after is sale for scrap in May is this Lima built 2-8-2 Mikado awaiting the scrapper's torch. Built in September of 1923 as Illinois Central #1910, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered it in April of 1938 to IC #1398. It continued to serve unti being sold for scrap in May of 1955. Rebuilt specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500, tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.
