PRR Coaling Tipple, 1965 |
Description: |
Coaling Tipple. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Shown here are some of the decommissioned steam locomotive tenders that have been placed in storage. Also visible at the right is PRR engine #4042, an AS-15M switcher built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1950, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in May of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. |
