RAIX 713 |
Description: |
Linde produced liquid argon used in the welding industries as well as liquid nitrogen and oxygen. I worked for Linde and this was the only exposed tankcar that I had ever seen. The majority of their tanks were mounted in boxcars that shielded the tanks from exposure to the sun which in turned would vaporize the liquids in the tanks due to the solar heating effect. The tanks would "smoke" causing concern by those not aware of the process to think something was wrong. As pressure builds up on the car a vent is provided to safely release excess pressure to the atmosphere. In this image you can clearly see and approximate 1.5 inch pipe routed upward coming from the control cabinet on the side of the tankcar. |

Coke Boxcar |
Description: |
At the time there was a shortage of coke hoppers so the Family Lines System converted old boxcars to hoppers by cutting loading holes in the roof to allow for loading. |

What Goes Around Comes Around |
Description: |
Check out the heritage on this hopper. The Penn Central emblem and name have worn through with a faded Conrail over that and now its a NYC hopper. What goes around comes around. Only thing missing is the either Pennsylvania or New York Central original scheme and colors. |
