SP RC 263
Title:  SP RC 263
Description:  This is an air repeater car. "A what", you say? Inside this boxcar are air compressors that recharge the brake pipe pressure. When it is cold out, and you have a long train, it can be very difficult to get your air pressure up on the rear, which makes a car like this very useful. I bet it made many trips over Donner Pass.

Air Hookups
Title:  Air Hookups
Description:  You had this apparatus on each end, obviously so that the car would not need to be turned! If the locomotives were on the end I am standing on, the air hose from the car ahead of this car would get hooked into the green "Trainline" hose, and would be open, while the yellow "Compressor" line would be closed. Just the opposite would happen on the other side of this car, where the green "trainline" line would be closed off and the remainder of the train hooked up to the "Compressor" line.

Consolidated Stencils
Title:  Consolidated Stencils
Description:  This car was built 46 years ago! I wonder when it was converted, possibly 12/76? The square that has the slight amont of a yellow circle showing through is an old Roller Bearing indicator. The square was black, and this made it easy to spot at RB equipped car from an old friction bearing car.
