CSS 2-D-D-2 #801 & 803 - Chicago, South Shore & South Bend
Title:  CSS 2-D-D-2 #801 & 803 - Chicago, South Shore & South Bend
Description:  Two of the three "Little Joes" were caught by an avid fan listed only as BH on the photo while the two were sitting in the Michicgan City shops area. The South Shore Line called these bi-directional units "800's" rather than "Little Joes" which referred to the Joseph Stalin order to GE for them but fell through because of political reasons. #803 is preserved at the Illinois Rwy Museum while #801 fell to the scrapper's torch in the 1980's.

Chicago, South Shore & South Bend Logo
Title:  Chicago, South Shore & South Bend Logo
Description:  This catchy logo based on the favorite children's book was adopted while the South Shore Line was struggling to survive. The NICTD was founded in 1977 to aid the floundering line, and when it went bankrupt they began operating the passenger service, eventually going on to purchase it in 1989. it is now a very productive line and even expanding south into areas of Indiana.
