Old ACL yard office being torn down
Title:  Old ACL yard office being torn down
Description:  The old ACL yard office in Dothan has met it's demise at the hands of a bulldozer. While never a remarkable building, it did serve several owners for many years. Sad to see it go.

CSX yard in
Title:  CSX yard in
Description:  A nearly empty (except for the small cuts of cars in the track furthest to the left) CSX yard in Dothan is a rarity. The bridge in the distance is North Reeves Street and passes over the yard near the yard office. I don't think I have ever seen the yard this empty.

Southbound loaded autorack train
Title:  Southbound loaded autorack train
Description:  Here is a photo of what appears to be a Q208 operating via the Dothan Sub instead of its normal routing via Montgomery/Lagrange/Manchester. Several have operated on the Dothan sub recently. Todays Q208 is lead by a UP unit with a CSX SD40-2 trailing. Dothan yard power is seen on the right.

Title:  Chip hopper still in CIRR paint scheme
Description:  This old CIRR chip hopper was seen passing through the CSX yard recently. It is now lettered for it new owner, Georgia Pacific, but it still proudly displays the "Better by a dam site" slogan from the CIRR many years ago.

Old ACL passenger station
Title:  Old ACL passenger station
Description:  I have to give it to the City of Dothan and Houston County, they really did a good job of renovating the old ACL passenger depot. It now serves as the hub of local bus service but retains it's railroad look and feel. All we need now is the South Wind to come sliding in for a station stop.

Q282 arriving
Title:  Q282 arriving
Description:  Q282 is seen arriving northbound at Dothan AL with a long string of empty autoracks destined for the Hyundai plant in Montgomery AL. This is a daily train and with Hyundai recently announcing the hiring of 1000 additional workers so as to add another shift, we may see start seeing multiple sections of this train.

Lease unit
Title:  Lease unit
Description:  This lease unit was seen in Dothan recently near the Conrad Yelvington facility. I am not sure if this unit was passing through on CSX or if it might have been destined for the Bayline as they are receiving numerous SD40's these days for use on the various GWI lines in the area. Conrad Yelvington's switcher sits in the background.

Big autorack car
Title:  Big autorack car
Description:  These may be commonplace on CSX but it is the first one I have seen. I have seen many articulated autoracks but not any stenciled "Auto-Max". Almost sounds like CSX is doing advertising for a car title pawn outfit.

Damaged car
Title:  Damaged car
Description:  This one may soon be razor blades. This GPSX chip hopper was loaded when it was spotted here but the load was removed and put into another car. This one looks like it is about to break in two and has probably seen it's last days.

Coal train
Title:  Coal train
Description:  NS power is seen on a coal train headed for Panama City FL. This is former CofG/NS trackage that is now operated by the Chattahoochee Bay Railroad, a unit of GWI. Coal trains to Panama City are rare, maybe 3 or 4 a year, and the NS power usually goes all the way through to Panama City.

CSX southbound
Title:  CSX southbound
Description:  A CSX local is southbound from Dothan in this shot. Note the blue tank car right behind the locomotives. I caught a glimpse through the trees of this train leaving Dothan and could only see patches of blue right behind the locomotives. Thinking it might be some oddball power I gave chase only to find it to be a tank car.
