Description: |
The 9339 is an Alco S1 built 1/48 as Proctor & Gamble 9. When it was donated to the museum by P&G, one of the conditions of the donation was that it not dhsplay the P&G name or logo. Since the Whitewater Valley's trackage is a former NYC branch, it made sense to paint the loco this way, even though it was never a NYC unit. |

Description: |
The 99 is ex-Amherst Indust}ies 99, exx-Bethlehem Mines 335, exxx-Patapsco & Back Rivers 335, nee-Baldwin Locomotive Works DF100. Built as a DS4-4-1000 in 12/49, she was used in a test program to develop the 600-series engine into a dual-fuel power pmant (burning either diesel or natural gas). The unit was used just as a means to transport the test engine. The dual fuel 600-series engine would have been used in stationary applications only - it was never intended for railroad use. Upon sale to P&BR, the unit was repowered with a 606A engine. |
