Title:  Another Look
Description:  A look from a different angle at the Second Avenue NW grade crossing. Wonder what a CGW Alco looked like chugging across here?

Towards The End Of Track
Title:  Towards The End Of Track
Description:  Two blocks west of where I was standing is the western end of the surviving fragment of CGW track in town. Incredibly, the switch you see here wasn't installed until the CNW era, when they moved trains from the ex-CGW between Northfield and Faribault to the Milwaukee Road line due to bad track (natch).

Where the Great Western and the Milwaukee meet
Title:  Where the Great Western and the Milwaukee meet
Description:  A surviving fragment of the Chicago Great Western line meets up with the former Milwuakee Road at this location. Crossing diamond is in the distance. From this point of view, one might still expect to see one of those old CGW alcos appear on the horizon even now, chanting into town.

Tracks And Trails
Title:  Tracks And Trails
Description:  At this point the ex-CGW is bordered on one side by a trail along the Cannon River as it winds its way into Faribault Foods. Rails at this point orginally were a spur off the route up to Northfield and on to Cannon Falls and Red Wing.

When Will The Next Train Pass?
Title:  When Will The Next Train Pass?
Description:  In 1995 when I first visited the old Milwaukee Road Faribault depot, three or four silver hopper cars were parked beside it to take on recycled aluminum stored in the south end of the Milwaukee yard site. Then as late as 2004 another customer required service in this area. Now the rails are empty, awaiting whenever the next train comes at last.
